The most important thing in finding a topic is to choose something in which you are interested. If you are bored with your topic, it is likely that your audience will be too.

 

Also, keep in mind who your audience is, and what sort of speaking situation you are presenting in. Are you presenting to a class, an academic conference, the Whitman Undergraduate Conference, the David Nord award presentation, or someother speaking activity like Intermural Debate or the Dovell Gose competition? Whatever activity you are engaged in, finding a good topic is the first critical step to crafting an interesting and effective presentation.
