Whitman Prep Session

Tentative POLICY Schedule

All events occur in the Hunter Building

The Policy Prep Session is designed to get our research on the new topic kick-started, to get new students integrated into the team and using our research process, and to drill and debate so we are ready for a great year!

NEW AND RETURNING DEBATERS WILL ENGAGE IN

3 DRILLS AND 2 FULL DEBATES

THURSDAY, AUGUST 9-21 optional POLICY debaters PREP WORK

From August 9 through 21, you are encouraged to come to Whitman and work.

Note: Aaron will return several days after the 9th. Jim will be available during this period of time only intermittently. That means that assistance with computers and printers is going to be minimal. Also, sorry, no food or housing is provided by the team Aug 9-21. You’ll need to get your own housing and food.

Also: Jim will be setting up the prep rooms at some point during this time and so it may interrupt your work.

If you want an early assignment, contact Aaron.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 21 ALL returning POLICY debaters

RETURNERS ARRIVE ONE DAY AHEAD TO HELP GET THE PREP SESSION EVIDENCE STARTED.

When you arrive, if you need it, get a key to your residence hall from Jim or Assistant at Hunter.

Food provided by the team begins with Dinner Thursday, August 21.

RETURNING DEBATERS:

4:15pm Meeting

We’ll discuss Moving toward Paperless Debating.

We’ll discuss research assignments

Show Jim that your computer is spyware and virus protected and is up-to-date. Get the newest template.

Clean your Server folder.

Prepare to present your topic information for the Friday 7pm meeting.

RETURNING DEBATERS, BY 6:00PM FRIDAY: AS A GROUP, YOU ARE EXPECTED to put together ONE short aff with responses and backup; NEG AGAINST THAT AFF INCLUDING a disad shell with responses and backup; a counterplan shell with responses and backup; and a kritik shell with responses and backup. YOU DO NOT EACH INDIVIDUALLY NEED TO DO A POSITION—WE JUST NEED ONE OF EACH OF THESE POSITIONS FOR THE SQUAD AS A WHOLE. You and the new debaters will use these during the drills. If you wish, you may prepare your own individual positions for the drills. SUGGESTION: Just use stuff you cut for your August research assignment to set this stuff up. OBVIOUSLY, it does not need to be tournament ready stuff—it just needs to be drill ready.
