Things you might need while at the tournament

 

PHONE CALLS

There is a phone next to the information desk. Dial 9 first to get out.

There is a phone in the skinny lounge area near the elevator. Dial 7 or 9 first to get out.

There is a phone next to the elevator on each floor in the Hunter building. Dial 7 or 9 to get out.

There are phones in the first floors of Olin and Maxey. Dial 9 to get out.

Long distance call—you’ll need to use your calling card.

 

CASH MACHINE

Head downstairs for the cash machine. After you finish climbing down the stairs, make a right into the hallway and you’ll see it near the end.

 

WIRELESS ACCESS

You should access the internet as a guest.

NO MORE THAN 20 COMPUTERS can be connected at once in the same location. SO—WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO AVOID CONNECTING IN THE REID BALLROOM.

 

NOTE: IN THE REID BALLROOM, THERE ARE ETHERNET PORTS. USE THESE FOR GUARANTEED ACCESS.

 

PENS, FLOWPADS, WATER BOTTLES, T-SHIRTS, TIMERS, ETC.

Go to Olin 180. We have a mini-store of Whitman items you can purchase at reasonable prices.

 

PRINTING, COMPUTERS

Go to Olin 180. We have a room setup there for you.

Computers with full internet connection are available for use for $1.

Printing is 5 cents per page.

 

PHOTOCOPYING

GO TO STAPLES. Get to Staples by going east on Isaacs Avenue (the 4 lane road on one side of  Whitman. Go east for about 1.5 miles. When you see a McDonalds, look left to see Albertsons—turn left into the Albertsons parking lot and drive past Albertsons—you’ll see Staples ahead.)

Your coach can do photocopying for you in the Library if needed.

 

LIBRARY—SORRY, YOU CANNOT USE THE LIBRARY

Sorry, but due to problems we’ve had in the past, the library is available only to students with an adult chaperone such as a head coach.

You can access most of Whitman library’s materials by using one of the computers in Olin 181 (fee is $1 plus 5 cents per page you print). If you include your email address in the sign-in at the end of these pages, you will also receive an email with the user name and password for a wireless connection to our internet.

 

EXTEMP PREP ROOM

Go to the Cordiner building in the back—Cordiner Basement West. Look for signs.

 

POSTINGS

In front of Cordiner, the large building across the street from Reid, the main location of the tournament.

 

TUB STORAGE

You can put your evidence into Olin 130 or into Reid Ballroom on Thursday or Friday night.

 

AWARDS

The main awards occurs in Cordiner Auditorium.

The late debate elim awards occur in Olin 130.

 

TIMERS

For those of you in Debate, Extemp, and Impromptu—bring a timer. We will also sell timers ($10 each) at the Computer Tech Room.

 

IN CASE OF EMERGENCIES DURING THE TOURNAMENT

·       If you have a minor injury call Security at 5777.

·       If you have a serious problem--call 911--to do this from a building phone, you must dial 7-911.

·       Note--if you need to get to a phone--the Residence Hall doors are open except late at night and there are phones there.  There are also phones by the outdoor tennis courts.
