BALLOT RUNNER, AT-LARGE GUIDE, AND REID REFRESHER

Thursday 4:30 to 11pm

Friday 8am to 11pm

Saturday 8am to 4pm.

Hi

I'm very glad to have you on board for this year's tournament.

In your job, it is important that you be nice, helpful, and supportive to the kids, coaches, and judges. Your exchanges with these folks is the number one impression they get of the college and specifically of our debate program.

These folks tend to be kind of "spaced out" in their own tournament world but they're also smart and almost always cooperative and helpful.

YOU SHOULD BE IN THE HUNTER FOYER AT 4:30pm on Thursday.

You'll work with me, Jim, and my tournament assistants, with the ballots and on your own, doing the guidework in buildings throughout campus.

When you come to the ballroom, come up to me and tell me your name and job and I'll get you going.

Note that the tournament, particularly the beginning, tends to be crazy busy, especially for me.

So, I may be a bit delayed/distracted but just be nicely persistent and I'll be glad to get you started.

THURSDAY 4:30 TO 6:15PM

1. CHECK IN WITH JIM TO TELL HIM YOU ARE GOING TO START DOING YOUR GUIDE WORK

2. MAKE SURE YOU ARE WEARING A NAMETAG THAT CLEARLY IDENTIFIES YOU AS A GUIDE

3. YOU NEED TO WALK THROUGH BUILDINGS—ANSWER PARTICIPANT QUESTIONS AND SOLVE PROBLEMS

--Maxey—Two times right after the Round 1 Postings go up; plus once during round 1; once during round 2

--Science— Two times right after the Round 1 Postings go up; plus once during round 1; once during round 2

--Memorial—once during each of the rounds

--Jewett—once during each of the rounds

--Lyman—once during each of the rounds

--Prentiss—once during each of the rounds

--Douglas—once during each of the rounds

--Anderson—once during each of the rounds

--New Music—once during each of the rounds

--Hunter—once during each of the rounds

If you see a professor/RA, ask if he/she has had any problems. FIGURE OUT A WAY TO SOLVE IT—INCLUDING POSTING SIGNS.

PLEASE DO NOT go into Prof offices/RA room to ask—ask only if you see them. DO NOT ASK A PROF/RA about problems more than once unless they initiate the conversation.

·        Make sure the COFFEE AND HOT WATER POT stay full and hot and that the doughnuts/coffee/food area remains neat and clean.
