---------------BELOW IS THE 2007 INVITATION INTRODUCTION LETTER

 

Dear Coach,

 

            We invite you to the 35th Annual High School Speech Tournament at Whitman College, nestled in the Walla Walla valley and buttressed by the Blue Mountains.  The tournament will begin Thursday early evening November 1st, for LD and Policy Debate. On Friday morning, November 2nd, IE’s, Parli one-person debate, and Student Congress start up; and all events finish Saturday the 3rd. The tournament features outstanding competition. Last year, 56 schools from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, and Hawaii attended the tournament. We are excited to host you at this year’s tournament!

 

FEATURES

·       LONG ROUND SCHEDULE making the tournament on-time and more relaxed.

·       TOURNAMENT GUIDES. Tournament guides in key buildings along with maps and signs should make finding your rooms easy.

·       ENTRY LIMITS. We restrict entries to avoid overcrowding at our school and at local hotels.
--MAX. 10 Policy Debate teams and/or LD Debaters (e.g. 10 LDers; or 7 Policy debate teams and 3 LDers; or 10 Policy debate teams).
--MAX. 6 Public Forum Debate Teams.
--MAX. 30 IE Slots including Parli and Student Congress entries.

·       JUDGING QUALITY. We have a training page specifically for new judges. We have judging philosophies for debate.

·       Preference Sheets for Champ LD and Policy TOC QUALIFYING debate plus judge philosophies ensuring you the best judging experience possible.

·       Lois Gorne of Federal Way and Sarah Sherry of Puyallup and Roberta Rice of Central Valley will serve in the tab rooms along with our folks.

·       NEW THIS YEAR: Public Forum in 2 divisions

·       NEW THIS YEAR: Student Congress will follow NFL based Rules and schools will be submitting the resolutions.

·       Educational Lectures by champion competitors on Policy Debate, LD Debate, Interp, and Speaking Events.

·       Food service during our tournament. We will keep you fed.

 

·       NOTE: MAKE SURE ALL OF YOUR STUDENTS AND JUDGES GET CERTIFIED.
