Jim
greatly appreciates your help with Life Duties at the WNDI. Please help out per
the time you are scheduled. In the event that you are scheduled for more than 5
hours duty during a week, keep track of it, tell Jim,
and you will be compensated extra. Also, if there is a disparity between the
average number of hours men and women work, please
tell Jim and members of the group who worked more will be compensated extra.
WHEN YOU HAVE
LUNCH-DINNER DUTIES
When
you are assigned lunch or dinner duty, you do the following.
Twice
during lunch and three times during dinner, you do a sweep of Lyman Hall, Olin
Hall-Science Building area, Ankeny field, the ampitheater,
“Narnia” (waterfall gardens), and the creek up to and including Lake Duckem, through to Hunter and by Reid. You are looking for
kids doing inappropriate things mainly sharing smokes, smoking illegal drugs,
or drinking. If you see such, stop them, and report it to Jim IMMEDIATELY.
WHEN YOU HAVE
RESIDENCE HALL DUTIES
Staff who are assigned to
residence hall duty MUST be in
the first floor or basement lounge at all times from 10:30pm until 12:15am when bedtime reminding begins. These residence hall
staff should be in their rooms or roaming the halls from midnight until 1am.
You may not leave the residence hall until 1am except in an emergency/medical
situation. You may not leave at 1am if the residence hall has a problem such as
students misbehaving, a student with a medical problem, inadequate staff
numbers, etc.
YOU MAY NOT CONSUME ALCOHOL NOR ENGAGE
IN ANY ACTIVITIES THAT WOULD IMPAIR YOUR FUNCTIONING ON THE DAY AND ALL NIGHT
WHEN YOU HAVE RESIDENCE HALL DUTIES. YOU NEED TO BE ON CALL EVEN AFTER YOU GO
TO SLEEP IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.
Students
who wish to sleep early should inform you of their name and room number so that
you do not wake them when you do bed check.
THE LIFE DIRECTOR remains in the Lyman or Douglas Main Lounge at all
times unless an emergency occurs or if you have a staff member in the lounge
while you play a game downstairs for 30 minutes or less. The Life Director is
not to leave the building unless there is an emergency. ALSO—WORK WITH YOUR TWO
RESIDENCE HALL ASSISTANTS TO DO THE ATTENDANCE CHECK FOR 10:30PM AND FOR
12:25AM.
THE MALE RESIDENCE HALL ASSISTANT MONITORS THE LYMAN OR DOUGLAS AND MAXEY COMPUTER
LAB AND . . .
At
10:30pm, 11pm, 11:30pm, and Midnight, you need to do a sweep of the area
outside Lyman or Douglas Hall, Olin Hall-Science Building area, Ankeny field,
the ampitheater, “Narnia” (waterfall gardens), and
the creek up to and including Lake Duckem, through to
Hunter and by Reid. You are looking for kids doing inappropriate things. If you
see such, stop them, and report it to Jim IMMEDIATELY. STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED
TO BE SUBSTANTIALLY FAR FROM LYMAN, MAXEY OR DOUGLAS AFTER 10:30PM.
THE FEMALE RESIDENCE HALL ASSISTANT MONITORS LYMAN OR DOUGLAS AND . . .
At
10:30pm, 11pm, 11:30pm, and Midnight, you need to do a sweep through the halls
of Lyman or Douglas—both sections first, second, and third floor. Say hi to kids and make
sure no shenanigans are going on.
At
12:15am, all staff in the residence
hall should tell students that they should begin going to bed including
handling bathroom issues. Remind them to be in front of their rooms for
room-check at 12:25am.
At
12:25am, all staff in the residence
hall should do the room-check. Use the room list by rooms. STUDENTS SHOULD BE
IN FRONT OF THE DOOR TO THEIR ROOMS.
After
room check, you should check to
make sure students are in their rooms. Lights can be on. Students can be
talking but it should not be loud. If a roommate is having problems sleeping,
the other roommate is expected to turn lights off/be quiet.
You
are officially excused at 1am but if you are still around the residence hall
after 1am, a sweep through a section of the Residence Hall to check on late
night students would be good.
MAKE SURE THAT the windows are shut and
locked in the lounge! Ditto with the doors into the building.
WHEN YOU HAVE 1-3AM RESIDENCE
HALL DUTIES
In
addition to checking on any situation where you hear noise, unusual smells or
sense activity: AT 1:15, 1:45, 2:15 and 2:45am, you are expected to do a sweep
of each and every hall of your residence hall. Make sure no shenanigans
are going on.
