HEAD POLICY PERSON

1. KEEP TO SCHEDULE Assure that the camp schedule is adhered to and for making any needed adjustments to the schedule after getting approval from Jim.

2. MEDICAL FORMS Get a copy of the medical insurance forms from Jim. These must be kept in a private location that is secure but MUST be in the Policy building so that when an emergency happens, you have them readily available.

3. CHECK ROOMS TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE CLEAN AND THERE IS NO DEROGATORY GRAFFITI AT 10:30PM EACH NIGHT. You are fined $10 per complaint; $30 if it is a serious complaint.

4. DEBATE ROUNDS

·        Tab debates including coordinating judges with the Head LD Lab leader and Jim, posting rounds, and recording results as needed.

·        NOTE: I WOULD LIKE THE HEAD POLICY AND LD LAB LEADERS TO MEET MONDAY NIGHT of the first week AND SET UP THE JUDGING FOR THE DEBATES.

·        There is a Junior-Novice Division and an Open Division. If there aren’t enough for a division, then have a breakout elim round(s) for that division.

·        POSTINGS MUST SHOW THE FIRST AND LAST NAME OF EACH DEBATER. We must have this for safety reasons as we need to get to kids during emergencies. MAKE SURE THIS HAPPENS. Sorry, no abbreviations or funny names—we have had problems with that in the past.

·        Email Jim DURING THE BEGINNING OF THE FINALS ROUND with the top open and top novice speaker awards and the quarterfinalists, semifinalists, second place, and first place teams (you can send who the finals round teams are since you won’t know who won).

5. FILES OKAY TO USE OR NOT? Handle issues concerning whether a file can be used in the tournament. The basic guidelines for making this decision: 1) Has the position been printed for the camp; 2) Are there printed responses to it? The Head Policy Printer also makes these decisions so some coordination may be necessary.

6. LAST DAY. Tell kids to grab their stuff and to pick up their lab rooms.

7. GENERALLY Handle various issues that crop up so that the camp’s smooth operation is ensured. In the event that Jim requests you to engage in extra work—please help him out. If your extra work involves more than 10 hours beyond the hours of a regular Aff-Neg Lab Leader, Jim will compensate you.
