HEAD POLICY PRINTER JOB

OVERALL

Your job is to make sure that quality files are produced; that files are printed; that files are distributed on time; that you assist Jim in setting up labs; that you supervise the Work-Study students; all of the items noted below.

Please help Jim out when he needs it including if he needs help getting things done needed for the camp. In the event that your total printing job hours total more than 80 hours, tell Jim; you will be compensated extra.

NOTE: YOU DO NOT HAVE LECTURES MON-WED; MAKE SURE TO TELL JIM THIS IF HE ACCIDENTALLY GIVES YOU A LECTURE, LAB, OR JUDGING DURING THIS TIME..

BEFORE CAMP

1. ASSIGN RESEARCH. In late May, you are in charge of assigning research to the staff based on preferences they request. Work in coordination with Jim on this.

2. ASSURE RESEARCH IS HIGH QUALITY. During June and July, you are in charge of assuring that policy staff are working on files that will be good files that will be useful in rounds (they link to the affs, have good evidence, are key issues on the topic, etc.). Coordinate with Jim on this as needed.

3. PROVIDE FEEDBACK TO CAMP STAFF PROMPTLY. During July and especially the week leading up to the beginning of the camp, provide feedback on files and outlines to the staff. You need to return files/lecture outlines to the staff to fix or to indicate they are approved within 2 days of receiving the files/outlines.

AT CAMP

1. TUESDAY, JULY 15, 11AM, BEGIN HELPING JIM

Assist Jim as he requests. On the agenda at a minimum is setting up tentative rooming lists, shuttle lists, and Aff and DA labs.

doing that

4. check for coach requests, unusual student requests, etc.

5. copy and paste the students into spreadsheet and setup and print

6. doublecheck printed names versus the actual stacks; doublecheck for

unusual situations

Give to Jim for him to confirm

3. TUESDAY AFTERNOON/EVENING, BEGIN PRINTING. Thereafter, print from 11am to 11pm each day with a one hour lunch, one and a half hour dinner, and half hour break except for time where you work in your negative labs or give lectures/example debates. Each day at 11am, check with Jim for any needed work.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A CHECKLIST OF ASSIGNMENTS SO YOU KNOW WHAT NEEDS TO BE PRINTED.

SETUP A FOLDER INSIDE YOUR POLICY FOLDER

CREATE A “TO BE PRINTED,” “PRINTING,” AND “PRINTED” FOLDER. Use these folders per their name.

SAVE FILES EMAILED TO YOU INTO THE “TO BE PRINTED” FOLDER.

DO NOT DELETE THE EMAILS—you WILL need to retrieve at least a few as you work.

CHECK EACH FILE FOR THE FOLLOWING

·        Blank pages or hats? Remove them

·        Too many Pages? See Jim.

·        Index? It must have an index.

·        File isn’t split into aff and neg? Do so unless it is a very short addendum.

·        Page Numbers? Must have these on each page in the upper right hand of the page.

·        Header with the file name at the top of the page? That’s needed.

·        Citation problems? Fix and/or See Jim.

·        The file is too large—remove pictures or see Jim.

·        Bizarre problem with it? See Jim.

RENAME FILES TO:    AFF AMERICORP DANA 45

                                    CP NEG STATES JEFF 30

                                    CP AFF STATES JEFF 20

The number indicates the number of pages in the file.

Try to make the file name as close to the one on the form the students filled out.

PLACE PRINTED FILES INTO THE “PRINTED” FOLDER. Do NOT delete or lose these files. THEY ARE NEEDED FOR THE CAMP EVIDENCE THAT JIM EMAILS TO CAMPERS AND THAT JIM SELLS AFTER CAMP. Plus, you copy them to the dcamp server for lab leaders to use for 2ac frontlines and other arguments.

KEEP TRACK OF WHAT HAS BEEN TURNED IN AND PRINTED. Email Lab leaders that have not turned in their evidence.

PLEASE CLOSE FILES AT NIGHT so that the Replicator can backup the evidence.

AFFIRMATIVE AND CASE NEGATIVES
--Print 6 copies of the aff.
--Print 1 copy of the case-negs for each and every policy camper
--Put these into a box for each affirmative lab. You’ll give these boxes to the aff. lab leaders who then hand out the evidence.

DA, CP, AND K FILES
--You will print packs of DAs, CPs, and Ks that you select. Each camper will receive the same pack.
--Print 1 copy of the DA, CP, and K Answers Files for each and every camper.
--These files plus any addendums that you print later will be collated and distributed later. It is explained in the Sunday-Thursday printing information below.

4. SATURDAY AND SUNDAY SUPERVISE THE WORK-SCHOLARSHIP STUDENTS so that they complete the work Jim requests. Mainly, they will assist you in collating and sorting printed files as well as getting some web information on the policy and LD topics. They work Saturday, 4 to 6pm; 7 to 10:30pm; and Sunday, 11am to 12:30pm; 1:30 to 5pm. PLEASE THANK THE KIDS AT 5PM.
