Can students leave campus during the camp?
For safety reasons and to help our staff’s requirement
to keep track of everyone, you need to remain on campus at all times
except:
1)
You may go off campus from 7:30am to
9:30am, during lunch, and during dinner so long as you are with at least
one other camper. You MUST STAY WITHIN THE GREEN LINES NOTED IN THE MAP
BELOW. Practically, that means, you can go to Safeway, the Post Office, and
Downtown to where it meets 2nd
Avenue. Please do not cross Isaacs, Clinton or Alder
streets.

2)
In the evening (after the last lab
of the day), you need to remain in the residence hall or in the area
directly in view of the residence hall or in the computer lab rooms. If
you want to go to Safeway or elsewhere including on campus, you must be
accompanied by an institute staff member.
3)
If you have an emergency, an institute staff member can take you to the
emergency clinic or hospital.
When you leave Whitman’s campus
under any circumstance, Whitman’s liability is removed and you leave at
your own risk.
What happens when students don’t
show up to lectures or for evening attendance checks? We are forced to do a search. If a student is
not found within 20 minutes, we contact Security to assist with the search.
PLEASE don’t make us do
this because you violated the rules.
What happens if a student is sick? Please contact Rob Olsen, head life person. You
can do that in a number of ways: 1) tell your roommate or staff member; 2)
email Jim Hanson or Rob Olsen; 3) call Rob. If it is an emergency, call 911
and/or call Jim or Rob.
What happens if a student wants to
visit a friend, an aunt or uncle, etc.? Just contact Jim Hanson at least 24 hours ahead of time. Your
parents/guardians must send an email approving your visit. You must also
tell Rob Olsen at the time that you go for your visit.
