Our camp provides intensive preparation and practice on the topics you will actually use during the 2010-2011 year. Our institute has students prepare cases on the NFL LD topics so that students have the resources and background on the actual topics that they will debate.

  • TRADITIONAL AND CONTEMPORARY PHILOSOPHY
Students will be exposed to traditional philosophical perspectives but they will also learn about contemporary and post-modern perspectives. LD debaters will leave our camp with a broad based philosophical background that covers Rousseau, Locke, Rawls, Etzioni, MacKinnon, Foucault, and many others.
  • ONE-ON-ONE WORK IN SMALL LABS
You do not sit in large lectures for most of the day at our camp. You do not research in a corner of a library and you do not sit in a lab with 16 to 20 other students. For most of your day, you work in small labs interacting one-on-one with one of our staff members. Our staff includes LD state and national champions, people who have excelled in the Northwest and on the national circuit in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. These debaters have continued their success in college advancing to late elimination rounds at the NPDA and NPTE national championship tournaments. Most importantly, our staff are people who care about working with you to make you the best that you can be.
  • A RECORD OF SUCCESS
Students at our camp show remarkable improvement and are ready to win on the regional and national level.
    1) 2007 WNDI debaters closed out the AAAA state championship in Washington: Katie Bergus and Amy Smith.
    2) A Junior at the 2008 camp made it to semis of Alta even though he is only a junior. Oliver Gappmeyer.
    3) Sean Perenboom from the 2008 camp qualified to NFL Nationals.
    4) Sonia Vora from the 2008 camp was 2nd in the AAA state championship as a sophomore.
    5) At every major Washington state tournament 2007-2009, at least one WNDI debater broke.
  • ADVANCED DEBATE SKILLS
Students will learn advanced rhetorical and debate strategies and theories by examining judge adaptation, values, criteria, philosophers, and rebuttals. We are also adding on differing levels of lectures so that students learn the materials most important to their success.
  • TONS OF PRACTICE DEBATES AND DRILL SESSIONS
During the first two weeks, LD debaters will engage in two full debates with critiques on six of the 2010-2011 LD topics plus they will do six practice sessions covering affirmative and negative case, refutation, rebuilding arguments, cross-examination, philosophy, values and criteria. Students in the three-week program will engage in at least 8 additional debates covering four more of the 2010-11 LD Topics. IN ALL, THREE WEEK STUDENTS COVER ALL TEN NFL LD TOPICS.
  • TIME FOR STRATEGY AND REFINEMENT
We give more time on each topic and as a result, debaters at our camp get hours more to practice with their cases, to adjust and strategize the cases for maximum effectiveness, and to better reflect on what went well and what to improve on when debating during the actual year.
  • YOU LEAVE CAMP WITH EVIDENCE ON THE TOPICS YOU WILL DEBATE!
WNDI is the ONLY camp (at least that we know of) that prepares the topics you will actually debate. You will leave with affirmative and negative cases on all of the 2010-11 NFL-LD topics plus evidence and analysis on key values and criteria that you can use on any topic.
  • THE THIRD WEEK IS AMAZING
LD debaters learn more advanced philosophy and value theory, debate with staff members (so you get top notch competition and our staff is nice!), cover four more of the 2010-11 NFL LD topics, and participate in a concluding championship tournament.
