How the Debates Work

·        THE BASICS OF WHAT HAPPENS: There is an affirmative debater and a negative debater in an intramural debate. The affirmative supports the topic; the negative rejects the affirmative case.

·        WHAT YOU SHOULD DO BEFORE ARRIVING: Prepare a case on the affirmative, be prepared to debate the topic on the negative. Remember, a debate team member would be glad to assist you: Click here for help preparing for Intramural Debate

·        MORE DETAILS: What happens in the IM debates? Click here

·        SPEECH TIMES

·        First Affirmative Speech 4 min.

·        First Negative Speech 6 min.

·        Second Affirmative Speech 3 min.

·        Second Negative Speech 4 min.

·        Third Affirmative Speech 3 min.
