I teach several courses here at Whitman. In addition to Principles of Psychology, our introductory course, I also teach courses in developmental psychology, the psychology of women and gender, mathematical abilities in animals and humans, and theories of development. My teaching approach is grounded in problem-based learning and team-learning. This means that students use class time to attempt to resolve the current hot issues in psychology. There are frequent short assignments, so that students are actively engaging in the material every day. Student also work in teams for many projects, because team learning is a great motivator for students and it promotes cooperation, listening, and teaching.
