- Use the Penrose Library proxy server to gain access to the electronic resources (databases, journals and Article Linker) at Whitman. The library has over 18,000 unique journal titles and over 80 databases.

If a journal article is requested via Interlibrary Loan (only for items not at Penrose Library), you will be notified by email and be able to access that item from any computer with an internet connection.
- Check out material at one of the Summit libraries using your Whitman College ID. Use "Pick-up Anywhere" to request material in Summit and pick-up material at any Summit library. For a complete list go to: http://www.orbiscascade.org/members.html
- Use the local public library. Many public libraries subscribe to electronic databases and have resources to support local community college students. Public libraries have access to computers and the internet.
- Get a courtesy borrower's card from the local university or college library. A courtesy borrower's card does not give access to the library's computers or electronic databases, but allows check out of materials. There is usually a cost associated with a courtesy borrowers' account.
Many areas have local borrowing agreements between area libraries. Ask at the public library for more information. Many programs allow access to a courtesy borrower's card without a fee.
