Anticipated Schedule of Events for Sunday, October 21, 2012

All Family Weekend events and activities are completely optional. There are no requiered events. The most important thing to do is spend some quality time with you student.

8-11 a.m.

Continental Breakfast in Prentiss Dining Hall. Family members are invited to enjoy their student’s dining experience. Hot food is not served until Brunch ($5 per person, free for children 5 and under).

9:00 a.m.-evening  

Family Silent Reflection / Centering Prayer. You and your family are invited to stop by    the peaceful confines of the Spiritual Activities Room where you may simply sit in silence, or opt to participate in one of two guided resources: Centering Prayer or, Metta (Lovingkindness) Meditation. This is a“drop-in” style event.  Prentiss Hall, Room 10, on the bottom floor.

9:00 a.m.

Farmer's Market featuring late-season produce, Walla Walla gifts and musical entertainment.

11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Brunch in Prentiss Dining Hall. Family members are invited to enjoy their student’s dining experience. ($9.75 adult, $5 children 6-12, free for children 5 and under).

12:00 p.m. 

Women’s Soccer. Whitman Athletic Complex on Sumach and Penrose.

8 p.m.

Harper Joy Theatre performance. Tickets: $12 adults, $8 students and seniors, Whitman students free with their student ID. Tickets will go on sale on Oct. 10th. To make reservations, or for more information, call the Box Office at 509-527-5180.

2:30 p.m. 

Men’s Soccer. Whitman Athletic Complex on Sumach and Penrose.

** indicates activities that are very interactive and designed for siblings and other young (or young at heart) visitors.

Here are a few suggestions for other activities that you can do with your student throughout the weekend:

  • Meet your student’s roommate(s), housemate(s), or best friend.
  • Take a tour of the residence hall, interest house, fraternity, sorority, house or apartment where your student lives.
  • Walk to Pioneer Park and visit the aviary
  • Ask your student to give you a custom tour of her or his favorite places on campus.
  • Visit the Welty Student Health Center and have your student get a flu shot.  The cost of the shot is $25.
  • Visit the Stevens Gallery in the Reid Campus Center and the Sheehan Gallery in Olin Hall
  • Take a sculpture and public art tour of campus. Self-guided tour brochures available at the sign-in table, Reid Campus Center.
  • Work out with your student at the Baker Ferguson Fitness Center from 10am-10 pm.
  • Borrow a bike from your student’s roommate and ride with your student up the Mill Creek trail to Rook’s Park.
  • Take a walk around Bennington Lake (the local reservoir).
  • Go out for a milkshake at the Ice-Berg Drive-In.
  • Ask your student to take you “pinging.”
