The Provost and Dean of the Faculty is the chief academic officer of the College and as Provost represents Whitman College in the absence of the President.

In addition to managing the academic affairs of the College, the Provost and Dean of the Faculty oversees Penrose Library, the athletic program, the Office of the Registrar, Off Campus Studies and other operational offices.

The Associate Dean of the Faculty assists the Provost in managing the academic affairs of the College, with a particular focus on faculty development, including Aid to Scholarship and Instructional Development (ASID) and the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL). She also oversees the Sheehan Art Gallery and the Office of Fellowships and Grants.

    The Assistant Dean of the Faculty assists the Provost with programmatic-level and institutional-level assessment and evaluation, especially pertaining to the academic affairs of the College, and serves as the College's NWCCU Accreditation Liaison Officer.
