Message to Whitman Families on the Global Economic Situation
Dear Whitman Families:
As
each of you reading this surely knows, the global economic situation
has created significant turbulence in the financial and credit markets
over the past months. In light of this, we have particularly important
reasons to reflect on and be thankful for Whitman's solid financial
foundation. Thanks to the philosophy and foresight of many people over
the last several decades, the College's position during this difficult
period in our history remains strong.
While
no one can state with certainty what the financial picture will look
like in the coming months, I assure you that Whitman will remain
vigilant in our oversight of the College's budget and operating costs
as the current economic situation continues to unfold. I also assure
you that the College will remain mindful of financial circumstances of
each Whitman family.
The
Office of Financial Aid has recently prepared a "Frequently Asked
Questions" page on their website. If you have questions about aid, you
should initially go to the site:
http://www.whitman.edu/content/financial_aid/economy
If
the site doesn't address your financial aid concerns, give the Office
of Financial Aid a direct call. They will welcome your inquiry.
All
of us at Whitman are focusing our collective energy on the College's
core academic mission and on our student support programs. Even as we
acknowledge and analyze the challenges around us, we continue on the
solid course established for Whitman in 1882, enabling our students to
pursue and achieve their educational goals and dreams.
Sincerely,
George Bridges
