CIEE: Taipei Communication, Business, and Political Economy

Through the CIEE: Taipei Communication, Business, and Political Economy program based at National Chengchi University in Taipei students can study Chinese language intensively while taking classes in English with Taiwanese students at the University. The program includes excursions to temples, mountains, tea plantations, and museums.  There are also opportunities for students to volunteer with Taiwan's many NGOs and NPOs.

Fields of study:

Chinese language, Chinese literature, history, philosophy, psychology, economics, politics, sociology

Eligibility:

Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 (Whitman requirement)

Language Prerequisite:

Two semesters of college-level Mandarin or equivalent required

Fall, Spring, Academic Year

Calendar:

Septemeber – December, February – June

Credits:

15 semester credits - Required Courses:
Chinese Language Course
CIEE Elective Courses and/or courses at National Chengchi University

Credit Conversion:

1 CIEE credit = 1 Whitman credit

Housing:

University residence hall with Taiwanese roommates, off-campus International houses with Taiwanese or international roommate, or a local homestay family.

Meals:

Students are responsible for purchasing their own meals and typically eat either at the university cafeterias or at the numerous local restaurants near the campus

Internships:

In Taiwanese and international media and communications companies.  Past internships have included work at ICRT, Taipei Times, the China Post, Central News Agency, Reuters, and Bloomberg
