Members present: Gary D'Agostino, Sonja Aikens, Jeff Donahue, Jennifer McNeil and Marilyn Ponti
Members absent: Jason Arp, Ginni Delavan and David Sprunger
Invited Guest: Cindy Matern
The meeting was called to order at 1:30 PM in the Physical Plant Conference Room. Dag handed out the agenda.
Cindy Matern talked about confidentiality and keeping information within the committee in response to the Committee's question on how to handle responses we anticipate receiving from staff members. Anyone who uses their email to send the questions is disclosing who they are. The committee will keep any questions within the committee if they are specifically asked.
There were concerns that the web site is not getting updated. Both Dag and Jennifer will work on trying to get it updated and functional for the campus this month.
There was a discussion about the Baker Ferguson Fitness Center and about the usage/ benefit for staff. The committee would like to extend an invitation to Michele Hanford, Fitness Center Director, to come and discuss the recent fitness survey results and help us to better serve the staff regarding fitness and wellness on campus. Marilyn offered to ask her to attend the March meeting.
An issue was raised regarding staff taking extra time to work out during the day and what the college's policy is on this. Cindy Matern explained that each supervisor is responsible for their employees. Therefore, if they are ok with their staff coming in early or staying late so they can work out during the day, that is up to them. It is based on the work need for each department.
The committee addressed an issue that came up regarding the sick leave policy. An issue was discussed regarding the payout when an employee retires. Cindy reminded the committee that the sick leave is not a benefit but an insurance policy for sick leave. Cindy also mentioned that the policy has been in place a long time. She will ask Carol Harris to take a look at it and possibly come up with a simpler process for the future.
The committee discussed the economic times and what we as staff are willing to give up. We discussed working both ways for the college and our constituents.
At our March 5 meeting, we will start reviewing medical plans for next year. Cindy will get us the information in March to start reviewing.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:30 p.m.
