Applying for Financial Aid

New and Prospective Students

Whitman College uses two forms to apply for financial aid, depending on the type of assistance you seek:

  • CSS Profile - to apply for need-based institutional scholarship
  • FAFSA - to apply for federal and state aid such as grants, loans, work study

If you are only interested in applying for achievement-based (merit) scholarships, you do not need to submit either of application forms mentioned above to be considered for this. The Office of Admission will automatically let you know if you have been selected as a recipient of an achievement scholarship.

CSS Profile

The CSS Profile is the most important application students need to submit in order to apply for Whitman need-based scholarship. Whitman's code for Profile is 4951.

The deadlines for completing the CSS Profile are:

Early Decision I November 15
Early Decision II

January 5

Regular Decision

February 1

Please pay close attention to the deadline for submitting your CSS Profile. If your forms are submitted late, you may be placed on a wait list for need-based scholarship.

FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the second form that needs to be completed. You cannot complete this form until after January 1. Students who are applying Early Decision in November must wait until January 1 to complete this form. For all incoming students this needs to be completed no later than February 1. For returning students, the form needs to be completed by April 15. Whitman's code for the FAFSA is 003803. If your FAFSA is selected for Verification, we will require some additional documentation.
