About Us

Because sponsorship of a summer program on the Whitman campus can benefit you, your department, and the entire College, I would like to invite you to consider hosting an academic summer conference! Besides recognition amongst your peers, a summer workshop allows you to showcase your department to potential staff, administrators and students. To assist you with developing a seminar or workshop, the Summer Programs Office strives to provide:

PERSONALIZED SERVICE:

Conference organizers and workshop guests receive personalized service from administrators, staff, and student staff in the conference, housing, and Bon Appetit food service departments.

PROGRAM PLANNING ADVICE:

Assistance is available for the total design of the program. There are many details which must be worked out to properly plan, schedule, and administer your activity, but it's simple with proper planning.

MARKETING SUPPORT:

Identification of your audience and development of a marketing plan is important. This office can also suggest ideas for announcements, preregistration notices, advertisements and brochures for your event.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT:

I'll work with you to draft a comprehensive budget. This budget will reflect the unique needs of your activity and make it selfsupporting.

FACILITIES COORDINATION:

It's important to have the right space for your activity. This office can locate your meeting facilities and make sure that they are properly prepared when you need them.

GROUP AIRFARE DISCOUNTS:

If your registration count is high enough, this office can help to negotiate arrangements with Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air for discounted airfare for your conference guests and speakers.

PRESENTATION SUPPORT:

Through cooperation with the Instructional Media Services staff, we'll arrange for the necessary audio/visual equipment.

FOOD AND HOUSING ARRANGEMENTS:

There are a variety of dining options on the Whitman campus and because our food service operation is operated by Bon Appetit, you're guaranteed a quality event at an attractive price. We can make arrangements for oncampus housing for groups under 300. In addition, we can assist with suggestions for arrangements with local hotel properties.

POST ACTIVITY WRAPUP:

After you conference, the summer staff will help to wrapup all of your postevent details. We don't consider your activity over until we have had a chance to review the program with you.
