Faculty news brief
Heidi Dobson, professor of biology, recently discussed her research on a Swedish T.V. interview. For the past 10 years, she has been studying the flower recognition process in one species of bee on the island of Öland. In the interview, she discussed the urgent problems facing this particular bee population. Because the county hires companies to remove their bellflower food source from the roadways, their population has been decreasing in recent years.
The T.V. channel also interviewed Dave Karlsson, the resident director of Dobson’s research station, and the county transportation department.
“I was thrilled that they chose this story, because I have been wanting to bring this critical issue to the attention of the local government, and this TV story certainly did that,” she said.
