Poor Richard's iPad: The Return of American Journalism to its Roots

Terry Tang is the deputy editorial page editor of The New York Times and Whitman's 2013 Hosokawa Journalism Lecturer. She will address how blogging, tweeting and Facebooking fit into our press traditions - and also changes them.

Ms. Tang has held many positions in the editorial and news departments of The New York Times. She joined The Times in 1997 as an editorial writer, covering legal issues, national affairs, health care, education, immigration, tax and social services. She later became editor of the Op-Ed page in the period before and after the 9/11 attacks. She has also been deputy technology and health industries news editor, and major beats editor for metro news. Before returning to the editorial department, she was an editor of Room for Debate, The Times's online discussion forum.

She was previously a columnist and editorial writer at the Seattle Times, and a staff writer at the Seattle Weekly. She was a corporate lawyer in Seattle before entering journalism.

Ms. Tang holds a B.A. in economics from Yale University and a J.D. from New York University School of Law. She was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard in 1992-93. She and her husband have four children and live in Montclair, New Jersey. Their son John is in the Whitman College class of 2016.
