The Invention of Paganism

James J. O'Donnell, University Professor and former Provost of Georgetown University, will deliver the Judd D. Kimball Lecture in Classics entitled "The Invention of Paganism." This lecture deals with the origins, uses and dangers of words like "pagan" and "paganism."

O'Donnell's celebrated three-volume annotated edition of St. Augustine's Confessions (Oxford, 1992) established him as one of the world's leading experts on the later Roman Empire.
