Professor Brooks is the author of Captives and Cousins: Slavery, Kinship, and Community in the Southwest Borderlands which won the Frederick Jackson Turner Award; Bancroft Prize: Frederick Douglass Prize; and the Francis Parkman Prize. He is currently writing a book entitled “Mesa of Sorrows: Archeology, Prophecy, and the Ghosts of Awat’ovi Pueblo.”
