Julia Clancy-Smith is a Professor of History at the University of Arizona. She is the author of Mediterraneans: North Africa and Europe in the Age of Migration, c. 1800-1900 (2010), and Rebel and Saint: Muslim Notables, Populist Protest, Colonial Encounters (Algeria and Tunisia, 1800-1904) (1994); and co-editor of Walls of Algiers: Narratives of the City Through Text and Image (2009), and Domesticating the Empire: Gender, Race, & Family Life in the Dutch and French Empires (1998).
