What Makes Whitman
Students Great ?
"Bright, curious, motivated"
One of the main attractions of teaching at Whitman College is
the student body. I love teaching and working with Whitman students.
They are bright, curious, motivated to learn, sincerely interested
in improving themselves, keen on broadening their horizons, and
willing to work hard to reach these goals. It makes it very rewarding
to teach here.
I have extremely rarely encountered rudeness or bitterness from
the students; they are very pleasant, fun and interesting to be
with; they are respectful of others, have good team skills, show
appreciation of efforts one makes on their behalf, and become long-lasting
friends.
The small classes and close-knit atmosphere at Whitman make it
possible for faculty and students to get to know each other informally
and to learn from each other; I find this to be especially true
for students who conduct research with me during the summer. Collaborative
research provides unique opportunities for students and faculty
to work together in teams and for faculty to become strong mentors
who can help students in building their self-confidence and finding
paths to fulfilling careers.
