Coach tours China with strength-training group

Associated professor Tom Olson

Tom Olson, associate professor of sport studies, recreation, and athletics, was one of 18 professional delegates with expertise in strength and conditioning who visited the People's Republic of China in October.

Olson traveled to Beijing, China, for a week-long tour sponsored by the People to People Ambassador Program. The tour included stops at Beijing Sports University, Shi Sha Hai Sports School, Shaanxi Sports Training Center, and the Shanghai Sports College. Topics of discussion ranged from the training and retention of coaches to strength training and conditioning techniques and principles in use today.

Olson was one of only two delegates from the Pacific Northwest. Coach of Whitman's highly successful ski teams since 1990, he also serves as manager and supervisor of the Whitman Fitness Center.
