spoon and rafter

Somber drifters search the desert and find an oasis of melancholy quietude, longing for home. The distant, symphonic first track finds Neal Halstead singing "gotta find a way to get me back home," yet the fleshed-out instrumentation of their hushed folk-pop feels like a warm blanket. This album conjures up a magic visage of downpour in the desert, lonely and desolate. Mojave's constant mellow tires after a little bit--at points it seems they're trying too hard to be wistful (track 3), which can take out some of the starkness offered by their other songs (track 1). Try #s 1, 2, 4 and 6.
