Service to others and philanthropy have been a part of
Delta Delta Delta since our founding. Internationally, our philanthropic
cause is the support of Children's Cancer Charities, and more specifically
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. To see our international philanthropy
page and a detailed history of Tri Delta's philanthropic activities, please

Locally, our chapter participates in a variety of volunteer
activities. We have had members serve as mentors and tutors for local
elementary school children and as hospital volunteers. Starting this fall,
a group of us intend to volunteer at the Blue Mountain Humane Society. We
also sign up as a group for ad hoc volunteer activities, like sorting
food at the Blue Mountain food bank. Even if only a few of us can fit
it into our busy schedules, Tri Delta always sends someone to help out. |

Tri Deltas turned up for Make A Difference Day
and the Greek Week Philanthropy Day in 2002-03. And,
of course, we organized our annual Philanthropy Dance
fundraiser.
Last year we organized a Battle of the Bands instead of a dance. |

Monica, Pascale and Amy, up early
for Make A Difference Day 2002 |
Every year we sign up for Make A Difference Day. It's a
nice way to volunteer because someone else does all the set up work
and you get a different project every year. The downside is that
you have to wake up early on a cold October Saturday morning. The
upside is the free breakfast in Jewett Hall! |

Our project for Make A Difference Day 2002 was
helping out at the Fort Walla Walla Museum. We moved things around
in museum storage--everything from old apple boxes to pieces from
horse carts to antique vacuum cleaners! After spending the whole
morning in the storage barn, we were dusty and cold but feeling
accomplished. |

For Make a Difference Day 2003, which fell during Family
Weekend, we took our family members along to shelf-read and decorate the
Walla Walla Public Library. TriDeltas made a wall collage for the children's
room and reorganized bookshelves. |

The Philanthropy Day project for Greek Week 2003 was helping
with a Habitat for Humanity house building. Tri Deltas helped get
the rocks out of the soil. In the picture at left, Christina, Blythe and Julia are all holding rocks that they helped
remove. |

From 2001-2003 we held a Philanthropy Dance every year.
It was a big thing, with contests, door prizes donated by Walla
Walla businesses, and Whitman students who auction themselves off
for one dance. Last year, for Philanthropy 2004, Philanthropy Chair
Kat Magid organized a Battle of the Bands.
All the money we raise goes to a group concerned
with children's cancer; proceeds often go to the Seattle Children's
Hospital. We've raised over $10,000 in the past four years, and
we're still excited about our philanthropy. |
