Van Safety Certification for
DEBATE TEAM MEMBERS ONLY
1. Before you start, you must meet these
expectations: 1) You must be at least 19 years old. 2) You must have a valid driver’s license. 3) You must have driven for at least 3 years. 4) You must have a good driving record (few tickets; no/maybe 1
minor accident). NOTE:
CERTIFICATION TAKES 2 TO 4 WEEKS TO COMPLETE AND REQUIRES YOU TO CHECK
FREQUENTLY ON YOUR STATUS AND TO COMPLETE THESE STEPS AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. 2. Get your Records in to Jim

WA State Permission Form
Print, Fill out, Bring to Jim OR Permission Form for
other states Print, Fill out, Bring to Jim (does not work for
Pennsylvania and Delaware students) Email Kathy to confirm with her that
she received this form. 1 to 2 weeks after Jim submits this
form, Kathy Rogers should email you with a serial number/access code for the
online training course. 3. Complete Online Training
Course
After Kathy gives you the code, take the Online Course. It takes
3 to 5 hours to complete. Students that have not begun doing
the Online Test Before (“New Students”): When
you are done—email Jim to confirm you have done this. 4. Complete Self Study Workbook
Kathy Rogers will email this to you after you complete the
Online Training Course. After Kathy confirms you have completed the workbook
sufficiently, she will email you with times/days for the One Hour driving
class. 5. Attend a one-hour class
called "Coaching the Van Driver II."
Be sure to go at the time and day. Email
Jim as soon as you have completed this. Kathy will schedule an on-road
driving test with you. 6. Take an on-road driving test.
You have to score a 75% to pass. When you do, you will be
van-certified. Email
