NOTE: If your computer is running the new Windows Vista operating system, do *NOT * install the SpySweeper software on your computer at this time as the software is not compatible with Windows Vista!


To install the software on your computer, please do the following:

1. Go to the Start menu >>> My Computer
2. Click on the apps on 'winapp' (J:) drive
3. Double-click to open the SpySweeper Enterprise Client Install folder.
4. Double-click the SpySweeper-Client-Setup-Firewall icon to execute the script that will configure your Windows XP firewall for the Spy Sweeper software.
5. Double-click on the SpySweeperSetup.  Selecting the correct one is tricky because there are 3 files with similar names.
   • The correct one is called SpySweeperSetup.msi - if you do not see the ".msi" (called the "file extension") on the end of the name, you can look for the appropriate icon by comparing it to the others that say SpySweeperSetup
   • The correct SpySweeperSetup icon looks like a little computer with a box and a tiny CD-ROM
   • The INcorrect SpySweeperSetup icons look like this:
     • One is a large blue & gray square with some triangles in it
     • The other is a white piece of paper (on a spiral notebook) with a yellow gear on it
6. When you find and run the correct SpySweeperSetup.msi installer, the installer window will open up...  click Next
7. The next steps depend on if SpySweeper is already installed on your computer or not...
   •   If SpySweeper is already on your computer... (which it may be if you have a new computer or your computer has been back to Tech Services any time since December) you'll see this window:
     If that's the case,
     1. click Cancel
     2. click Yes
     3. click Finished
   •   If SpySweeper still needs to be installed, you'll see this installation window:
   • If that's the case, follow these steps to finish the installation:

     1. Click "I accept..." and click Next
     2. Click Next
     3. Click Install
     4. Now wait for the installation to finish... (it will take a few minutes)
     5. Click Finish

8. Once the installation is finished, you'll be able to use the SpySweeper software using the icon for it by the clock on your desktop.  The icon looks like a small yellow radar screen...  like this:
   
   • Right-click on the SpySweeper (yellow radar screen) icon and a menu will appear
   • Click Sweep Now

The scan will now clean spyware off of your computer.  It should run for about a half-hour - you can run other programs concurrently.
