Enabling the Windows Vista Firewall
Turning Windows Firewall On or Off
To turn Windows Firewall on or off on a Vista computer, follow the steps below:
- Click the Start >>> Control Panel
- Once in the Control Panel, do the following depending on your view:
- If you are in Normal View (the words "Control Panel Home" will be highlighted in the top-left corner), click Security and, under Windows Firewall, click Turn Windows Firewall on or off:
- If you are in Classic View (the words "Classic View" will be highlighted in the top-left corner), find and double-click on Security Center. Once there, click Windows Firewall (located on the left-hand navigation bar) and click Change Settings:
- You should now be in the
Windows Firewall Settings menu. If it is not already on, click the button next to
On (recommended) to turn your firewall on and click
OK

Windows Vista Firewall is now enabled. Remember, you can change these settings at any time by following the steps above.
