Basic Email Setup Information

For those comfortable configuring their email software, you will need the following information:

Important ! New students as of May 2009 will be using our latest email system, WhitMail, powered by Google. More information about WhitMail and how to use it can be found in our WhitMail FAQ. Those wishing to connect to WhitMail via methods other than the web should refer to the following guides:

Incoming IMAP Server Information 

  • Type: IMAP
  • Server for students (students server): securemail2.whitman.edu
  • Server for faculty and staff (marcus server): securemail.whitman.edu
  • Port: 993
  • Security Settings: use SSL
  • Username and password: your standard Whitman username and password

Outgoing SMTP Server Information

  • Type: SMTP
  • Server for faculty, staff, and students: smtp.whitman.edu
  • Port: 2525
  • Authentication: use the same login credentials as the incoming server

Online Directory (LDAP) Setup Information

  • LDAP/Directory Server: ldap.whitman.edu
  • Search Base/Base DN: ou=People, dc=whitman, dc=edu
  • LDAP Server does not require a log on
