Sending Tickets Instead of Attachments

Emailing attachments is frequently problematic because files are too large. Rather than sending a large file, you can send a link (which is very small) to the file.

To send a ticket, you need to log into netFiles Web. Simply browse to the point at which you can see the file(s) or folder(s) you want to send. Click the checkboxes next to all of those files and/or folders and then click Ticket icon in the menu bar.

  1. Give the ticket an appropriate name (for future reference).
  2. It is advisable to leave the Permission as Read Only. You usually do not want people to be able to make changes to your version of the file. They can always send you a copy with changes.
  3. By changing the Lifetime of the ticket, you can decide how long the file(s) will be accessible to others. The default is 30 days, but you can choose whatever works best for you.
  4. For added security, you can specify a password for the ticket. This will help ensure that only the appropriate people can access the files you wish to share. If you leave the password fields blank, no password will be required.  Important Note: We advise you to not send this password in the same email as the URL (link) you will generate in Step 6.  Either send it in a different email, or actually call the recipient on the phone (recommended).
  5. Click on the Ticket button at the bottom to create your ticket.
  6. To send the ticket you can:
    • Click Send Ticket  - your default mail program will open and a new email will be started containing the ticket information. Note: This will not work well in the computer labs.
    • Click the text box that contains the ticket name and URL. It will automatically select the text so you can copy and paste it in other email programs such as Webmail or Pine.

To obtain the ticket information once you have left this screen, follow these steps for each file or folder you shared:

  1. In netFiles Web, go back to the point where you can see the file or folder you shared.
  2. Click on the Advanced icon corresponding to that file or folder.
  3. Click on Tickets link in the list.
