Creating and Using Class Folders in netFiles

The purpose of the class folder is to allow files to be shared with the instructor and students. Both instructors and students can add files to the specified location. Only the instructor can delete files.

- Login to netFiles Web
Creating the Folder
The folder you add will be created in the location you are currently in. If you want the new folder inside an existing folder, you need to navigate to that folder. To Create the folder:
- Click the "New Directory" button at the top of the screen
- Type in a name for the folder, such as THTR-126-XX (XX being your initials)
- Click "OK"
Setting Access Rights
Now that you have the folder, you need to give access rights to students to drop thier files in the folder.
- Click the "Advanced" icon to the right of the folder you created (it looks like paper and pencil)
- Click on "Permissions"
- Click "Add Users and Groups" at the top
- Under "Search" select "Groups"
- In "Begins with" type "Students" (no quotes)
- Click "OK"
- In the screen that appears leave "Read" checked and also check "Write"
- To allow the same rights to apply to all sub folders leave the first item bulleted for the apply permissions options
- Click "Apply"
- Verify the settings on the page that appears and click "OK"
- Click your "Home" bookmark (left) to return to your file listing
Accessing the Folder (Students)
Students will access this folder through the web interface. To use the folder they will need the folder's web address. To get this address, do the following:
- Click the "Advanced" icon next to the folder you created (it looks like paper and pencil)
- Under the "Directory Properties" you will see the full web address
- Copy and paste this into your course documents or link to it from a web page or course page
- Students will be asked to login when browsing to this page
- Students then need to click on the "Launch WFS Web View" link
- Files can be uploaded and downloaded following the standard netFiles instructions
- Students can also create a netFiles bookmark to the folder at this point by clicking the "bookmark" icon (next to the "Lock" icon on the red/brown bar)
