How you choose to save your Whitman email is largely dependent on how you currently use email and netFiles and your personal preference. For instance, if you often use Outlook to check your email, the best way to save your Whitman email is probably using the local folders method in Outlook. Likewise with MacMail and Thunderbird.
If you don't have an email program already setup (i.e., if you used only WebMail while you were on campus), then the transferring email to Gmail method allows you to easily move your Whitman email and setup a new email address with Gmail in the process.
This section describes how to use several popular and easily available email clients to copy your Whitman email messages from the Whitman servers into local folders that reside on your computer. Once you no longer have access to Whitman email, you will still be able to read those messages in the local folders using your mail client.

You can also move your Whitman email to some web-based email services such as Gmail. Gmail is a free mail service provided by Google Inc that is widely used and accessible through any Internet browser, as well as most popular desktop email programs. If you are interested in using Gmail, backing up your Whitman email using Gmail has the advantage of integrating all of your emails into one location.

If you have used netFiles to store files during your time at Whitman, you will most likely want to save all of those files so you can access them once you can no longer use the Whitman netFiles service. The easiest way to backp netFiles is to download all of your files using the netFiles web interface or the netFiles Folders view.
