Selection to the SDL program is by audition. Selected students have the choice of two, three or five weeks of study. If traveling to an audition site is a hardship, a video audition may be requested. Please look at the Video Audition Guidelines and download the Video Audition Application.
Please remember to reserve audition space by contacting the Audition site or printing and mailing the audition registration form. The SDL office does not book these reservations with exception of the Walla Walla audition. The Audition Fee is $25, payable to SDL onsite at the time of the audition. Those who attended SDL in 2008 need not audition in 2009. However, in order to obtain a possible audition scholarship, you must audition. Should you receive an audition scholarship, you will be informed by letter.
For the 2008 Audition Tour, SDL Director John Passafiume, Associate Director Denise Dabrowski and faculty members Tinka Dailey and Idalee Hutson-Fish will be conducting auditions which will include a master class. Selection to the SDL program is through audition. Dancers should arrive at least one half hour in advance, prepared to take a 1-1/2 - 2 hour (depending on numbers) advanced intermediate class, which may include Pointe work for the females. Prospective students must be at least twelve years of age at start of summer program. Students selected have the choice of taking 2, 3 or 5 weeks of study.
"Last year, I auditioned for Summer Dance Lab for the first time. When I found out I got in, I was thrilled. But, I was also very nervous. I'd never attended before and I didn't know what to expect. I shouldn't have worried. What I experienced at Whitman was not what I'd anticipated. It was better. The faculty was amazing; all were experienced and very supportive teachers. They pushed me in both artistry and technique. The location was first rate and my classmates were all very friendly and motivating. Overall, it was just a positive experience and one that I knew I'd have to repeat again the next summer."
