Mother, 2007 Student
Selection to the SDL program is by audition. Selected students have the choice of two, three or five weeks of study. If traveling to an audition site is a hardship, a DVD audition may be submitted. Please look at the DVD Audition Guidelines and DVD Audition Application that can be found on the "Forms" page at left.
At the Audition:
- Please present a small photo in first arabesque with the dancer's name written on the back.
- All students must be dressed in proper class attire, black leotard and pink tights for females, and white tee-shirt/leotard and black tights for males. All students should have ballet slippers. Pointe shoes are optional.
The 2013 audition registration form may be downloaded from this website. The audition fee is $30, payable to SDL at the time of the audition. All students who plan to attend SDL 2013 MUST audition or turn-in a video audition. Should you receive an audition scholarship, you will be informed by letter.

For the 2013 Audition Tour, SDL Directors John Passafiume and Lydia Tetzlaff and selected SDL faculty members will be conducting auditions which will include a master class. Selection to the SDL program is through audition. Dancers should arrive at least one half hour in advance, prepared to take a 1-1/2 - 2 hour (depending on numbers) advanced intermediate class, which may include Pointe work for the females. Prospective students must be at least twelve years of age at start of summer program. Students selected have the choice of taking 2, 3 or 5 weeks of study.
"Last year, I auditioned for Summer Dance Lab for the first time. When I found out I got in, I was thrilled. But, I was also very nervous. I'd never attended before and I didn't know what to expect. I shouldn't have worried. What I experienced at Whitman was not what I'd anticipated. It was better. The faculty was amazing; all were experienced and very supportive teachers. They pushed me in both artistry and technique. The location was first rate and my classmates were all very friendly and motivating. Overall, it was just a positive experience and one that I knew I'd have to repeat again the next summer."
