Whitman College Young Democrats

The Whitman College Young Democrats is a student organization of liberal and moderate Democrats open to all students interested in discussing Democratic Party in Walla Walla and Washington State. The organization meets weekly for these purposes and also gets together for additional Democratic Party events and for the events it organizes and pursues. Typical events may include Whitman College student voter registration in Washington State, voter registration of citizens of Walla Walla, organizaing and providing transportation to polls and caucuses, organizing cnadidate meetings, rallies and debates on campus, and attending such events in the community. The organization may decide to support a specific candidate and to campuaing for the candidate at Whitman College and in the Walla Walla community. While fund-raising is not a focus of the organization, it will gladly facilitate contributions to the Democratic Party and to specific Democratic candidates for office. The organization may also develop policy position papers, either for public information purposes, or to stimulate thinking on the topics discussed by specific Democratic caondidates for public office. In all events, however, the focus will be on candidates, election issues, and policy positions that have significance to Whitman College students and to Whitman College and Walla Walla generally. Depending on the number of members, standing committees may be formed and other committees may be formed for specific purposes. Any member may attend any committee sessions desired. While the main purpose is to educate and assist Demoratic candidates, and to disucss liberal and moderate Democratic politics, the Whitman College Young Democrats also meet to enjoy the company of politically like-minded fellow students. Meetings will be sturctured to be fun for all, and to provide a welcome respite from the academic rigor of specific discipline study.
