General Studies Committes

Description

The General Studies Committee is responsible for make recommendations about the introduction of new courses, substantive changes in existing courses, and alteration of rules for the Core program. There are two student representatives on this committee, who each serve one-year terms.

Nominations Process:

There are three student/faculty College Committees that have student seats and six student Advisory Committees. ASWC is responsible for appointing representatives to these committees. The appointment process to all these committees is carried out by the ASWC Nominations Chair in accordance with Article IX of the by-laws. The general procedure works as follows:

  1. The Nominations Chair solicits applications from the student body for all available positions.
  2. The candidates are evaluated by the ASWC Standing Nominations Committee based on written applications and interviews conducted by the Committee.
  3. The Nominations Chair presents the decision of the Standing Nominations Committee to the ASWC Joint Session, which will confirm or reject the nominees by a majority vote.
After confirmation, the student representatives to the various committees attend all meetings of the committee to which they were appointed, and may be requested to make periodic reports to the Senate on the business of that Committee.
