Club Latino

Description

Club Latino is a group of Whitman College students of all ethnic backgrounds whose goal is to educate both themselves, the community, and the Whitman campus about the history and culture of the Latino population of the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America, and Spain. Club Latino and its constituent members achieve this through events that involve Whitman students as well as the wider Walla Walla community.  Some examples of the relationship between our philosophy to bring both ethnic and cultural awareness to our community are played out throughout the year and include a Day of the Dead celebration and a Cinco de Mayo celebration. We further involve ourselves with our community through events like Shadow Day in which we invite high school sophomores of low socioeconomic status and educate them on the college application process as well as familiarize them about college classes by pairing them up with a Whitman student. As a whole, Club Latino strives to bridge the Whitman community with issues regarding Latino culture and society as well as bridge together the Whitman campus to the wider Walla Walla community.
