Anime Club

Description

The Anime Club is an association for the appreciation of anime and manga. Anime is the art of Japanese animation, as expressed in television series, mini-series, and films. Manga are Japanese graphic novels. Anime and manga are media known among fans for their unique art style and typically intricate plots and character interactions. Fans enjoy the wide and diverse range of genres encompassed by these media, including action, romance, comedy, science fiction, fantasy, drama, and horror. Fans of these media may also have an interest in Japanese language or Japanese culture.

The Anime Club provides a means for anime fans to contact each other and share their favorite anime and manga series, or to borrow from the club's collection of classic anime series on VHS. The club also hosts Anime Nights on campus every Saturday to promote the enjoyment of anime in a social setting. All members of the Whitman community are welcome to join the club in sharing three hours of our favorite anime films and series, as well as tasty refreshments.

The club also organizes an annual trip to Sakura Con, an anime convention held in Seattle every spring. The convention trip is a fun bonding experience for the members of the club, and provides an opportunity to meet fellow fans, discover new anime and manga series, peruse fan-produced art and video projects, converse with anime and manga artists, writers, directors and voice-actors, and participate in workshops on subjects ranging from art and writing to costume-making and the traditional Japanese tea ceremony.
