Fall 04:
Whitman Gamma Epsilon
This August, we initiated four brothers, all of who play on the tennis team, which took first place in the NWC this past year. With the help of gracious alumni, our house and kitchen got new paint jobs. Over the summer, we sent five brothers to LTW, including Robert Street, 2007, who also went to Horizons. Also going to LTW were Rush Chairs, Cole Smead, 2006, and Brett Buchanon, 2007, who have done a spectacular job thus far through rush. One new idea was to give two Scholarships to new freshman devoted to academic achievement. We’re proud of Scott Thompson, 2005, who took second in the nation for debating.
The chapter, a full house this semester, led by Consul, Andrew Shultz, 2005, seeks to bring back the Peterson Award this year. Improving alumni relations and getting more involved in philanthropy are two of our biggest goals this semester.

Winter 05:
Whitman Gamma Epsilon
This fall we had two alumni events, and many of our brothers coached YMCA basketball. In October, we had an alumni open house and the whole house ran a Halloween carnival for the community. In December, we had an alumni dinner with our Sweetheart from 1952, Darcy Wyant, who presented her badge to the chapter.
We won the coveted blue shirt in IM Football this year. Dominating performances from seniors, WR/S Andrew Shultz, 2005, and QB Sean Kinney, 2005, led the way to a blowout in the championship game against the Phi’s. This semester we pledged 9 guys and gained five awards for the Award for Excellence given by the college, including alumni relations, chapter management, community service, membership recruitment, and social responsibility. Many seniors are looking forward to finishing up with finals next semester and having an unforgettable time at our annual Sweetheart Ball in May.

Spring 05:
Whitman Gamma Epsilon
Led by our rush chairs, Cole Smead, 2005, Nat Jacob, 2008, and Clint Collier, 2008, we pledged 8 men, one of our most successful spring rushes in recent history. One of our rush events was taking brothers and friends of the house to a hockey game in the Tri Cities to enjoy a day away from campus. In an effort to bolster academic success, we created a mentor program with several upperclassmen mentoring underclassmen.
Our chapter has a brand new website dedicated to spreading information about our house and brothers (http://www.whitman.edu/content/sigma_chi). In addition, we have established an alumni listserve to improve communications between actives and alumni. Listserve subscription instructions can be found on the website. Alums from the classes of 1965, 1974, 1975, and 1976 graced our house with their presence in April at our alumni open house dessert.
Our seniors are looking forward to finishing up with finals this semester and having an unforgettable time at our annual Sweetheart Ball May 6-8.
