Time Anticipated Schedule of Events for Sunday, October 26, 2008
  All Family Weekend events and activities are completely optional. There are no required events. The most important thing to do is spend some quality time with your student.

8:00 – 11:00 AM

Continental Breakfast in Prentiss Dining Hall. Family members are invited to enjoy their student's dining experience. Hot food is not served until Brunch (special price $5 for all family members not on a meal plan, free for children 4 and under).
9:00 AM-EVE
Family Silent Reflection/Centering Prayer. You and your family are invited to stop by the peaceful confines of the new Spiritual Activites Room where you may sit in silence, or opt to participate in one of two guided resources: Centering Prayer or Metta (Lovingkindness) Meditation. Prentiss Hall, room 10.
9:00 AM-1:00 PM
Farmer's Market featuring late-season produce, Walla Walla gifts, and musical entertainment. Downtown Walla Walla.
10:00 – 11:30 AM ** The Organic Garden invites families and friends to attend a fall extravaganza of activities, including decorating pumpkins. Whitman Organic Garden (corner of Penrose and Pacific).
11:30 AM – 1:30 PM Brunch Prentiss Dining Hall. Family members are invited to enjoy their student's dining experience. ($9 adult / $6 children 5-12 / free for children 4 and under).
NOON
Women's Soccer hosts George Fox University. Whitman soccer fields.
2:00 – 4:45 PM Harper Joy Theatre presents: Isn't It Romantic by Wendy Wasserstein. Tickets: $10 adults/$7 students and seniors / Whitman students free with season pass. To make reservations, or for more information, call the Box Office at 509-527-5180.
2:30 PM
Men's Soccer hosts George Fox University. Whitman soccer fields.
  ** indicates activities that are very interactive and designed for siblings and other young (or young at heart) visitors.
 

Here are a few suggestions for other activities that you can do with your student throughout the weekend:

  • Meet your student's roommate(s), housemate(s), or best friend.
  • Take a tour of the residence hall, interest house, fraternity, sorority, house or apartment where your student lives.
  • Eat a meal in the dining hall with your student.
  • Work out with your student at the Baker Ferguson Fitness Center.
  • Ask your student to give you a custom tour of her or his favorite places on campus.
  • Visit the Stevens Art Gallery of the Reid Campus Center.
  • Visit the Welty Health Center and encourage your student to get a flu shot.
  • Walk downtown, go to the Farmer's Market Saturday morning, visit the local merchants, and tour the public art.
  • Take a sculpture and public art tour of campus. Art tour brochures are available to the sign-in table.
  • Tour the "big trees" of Walla Walla.
  • Walk to Pioneer Park and visit the aviary.
  • Walk around some of the neighborhoods near campus with historic Walla Walla homes.
  • Visit Fort Walla Walla or the Whitman Mission.
  • Borrow a bike from your student's roommate and ride with your student up the Mill Creek trail to Rook's Park.
  • Take a walk around Bennington Lake (the local reservoir)
  • Go out for a milkshake at the Ice-Berg Drive-In
  • Visit some of the local wineries.
  • Ask your student to take you "pinging".
