Time Anticipated Schedule of Events for Saturday, October 25, 2008
  All Family Weekend events and activities are completely optional. There are no required events. The most important thing to do is spend some quality time with your student.
8:00 AM – Noon Information and sign-in table will be open in the Reid Campus Center Foyer. Pick up a printed schedule of Family Weekend Events, a Parent's Directory and tickets for Theatresports or Planetarium Shows.
8:00 – 8:50 AM All Parents Coffee. Meet other parents and join us for coffee, scones and fruit. Sponsored by the Parents Association. Foyer and Café, Reid Campus Center.
9:00 AM – 1:00 PM Farmer's Market. Featuring late-season produce (peppers, corn, peaches, squash, pumpkins of various shapes and sizes, grapes, apples, tomatoes, etc.) Walla Walla gifts and musical entertainment (4th and Main).
9:00 – 9:50 AM George Bridges, President, Welcome. Young Ballroom, Reid Campus Center.
9:30 – 10:30 AM Men's and Women's Cross Country Team Time Trial. All family members are welcome to spectate. The 3k time trial is part the fine-tuning these athletes are doing in preparation for the Northwest Conference Championship Meet at Pacific Lutheran on the 28th of October. Borleske Field Track
10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
** Climbing Wall Adventure. Climb the outdoor wall! Gear and supervision will be provided. A parent or guardian must accompany visitors under 18 years of age. Sherwood Center.

**Family Free Paddle Day at Bennington Lake sponsored by the Whitman Outdoor Program. No experience necessary. All equipment provided.Come enjoy an afternoon canoeing and sea kayaking.

Faculty Lecture. Keith Farrington, Director of the Center for Teaching & Learning will present "African-Amerocan Musical Forms and the Rise and Fall of Rock 'n' Roll. Maxey Hall Auditorium
10:30 AM– Noon Parents Core Discussion Groups with Rogers Miles, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Religion, and Juli Dunn. A reception, with coffee available will precede the discussion which will begin at 11:00 am. Reading assignment: Book of Job 1-27, 29-31, 38-42.All parents are invited to attend. RSVP required (miles@whitman.edu). Meet on the second floor of the Reid Campus Center.
11:00 AM Annual pi sale sponsored by the Whitman Mathematical Society. Reid Campus Center.

Whitman Direct Action, a Whitman student activist group, will share information about their lastest project "Safe and Sustainable Clean Water Access". Olin 130.
11:30 AM – 1:30 PM Family Brunch. This special-priced meal will be served in both Jewett and Prentiss Dining Halls. Special price $5 for all family members and guests not on a board plan, free for children 4 and under.

Chemistry Departmant Open House: fun, hands-on lab activities for siblings or parents. Stay for as little or as long as you like. Come see what your students are doing in General Chemistry lab! Examples of student work from the Chemistry of Art class will also be on display. Hall of Science room 242.

2:30 – 3:20 PM The Career Center presents "Internships, Added Value for a Liberal Arts Education". The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session facilitated by Susan Buchanan, Director of the Career Center. Kimball Theatre, Hunter Conservatory.

Musa Kpaka 09' will present his research "Youth Developments in Sierra Leone". Sponsored by the African Awareness Club to benefit Youth Development Initiatives in Sierra Leone.Donations will be accepted. Olin Hall 130.

Women's Fastpitch Softball Doubleheader. Come watch the Whitman women take on Walla Walla College. Whitman softball field.

Senior Voice Recital. Student Shanna Cole will perform his senior voice recital. Chism Hall, Hall of Music.
8:00-9:00 PM Theatresports. A performance by Whitman's premier improvisation group. Pick up free tickets for this event in advance at the sign-in table at the Reid Campus Center.

Speakeasy: A Cappella Concert sponsored by S.H.A.C. (Student Health Advisory Council) featuring Whitmans' finest A capella groups. The concert will begin at 9:00 PM featuring Lights Out, the Sirens of Swank, SCHWA, and the Testostertones. Suggested donation of $5 for non-students. Proceeds will go to both the SOS Clinic (low cost health care) and the Blue Mountain chapter of the Red Cross. Cordiner Hall.
