Schedule of Events for Friday, October 19, 2012

All Family Weekend events and activities are completely optional. There are no requiered events. The most important thing to do is spend some quality time with your student.

3-7 p.m.

Information and sign-in table will be open in the Reid Campus Center Foyer. Pick up a printed schedule of Family Weekend events and tickets for this evening’s performance of Varsity Nordic Improv Group.

3:30-4:30 p.m.

Whitman Cookie Contest. Have a secret family cookie recipe? Bake up a batch and enter Whitman’s Fourth Annual Cookie Contest! The Glover Alston Center will be reserved for use from 1:30-3:30 p.m. for families to bake together. Email spevents@whitman.edu to pre-register. Reid Campus Center, Coffeehouse.

4-5 p.m.

The Whitman Music Department "Fridays at Four" Recital Series presents "A Faculty Recital with Amy Dodds, violin, and Jackie Wood, piano." Hall of Music, Chism Recital Hall.

4-6 p.m.

Jewett Art Exhibition. Join the residents of Jewett for an exhibition of the hall’s artistic talent. Cake and refreshments will be provided. Jewett Hall, main lounge.

4:15 p.m.

Whitman College Cycling Club invites you to join them for a 60 to 90 minute ride at a leisurely pace with a possible stop at a local coffee shop following the ride. Participants will need to provide their own bicycles, helmets, etc. Rentals are available at Allegro Cyclery on Main Street. Meet in front of Reid Campus Center.

4:30-6:00 p.m.

Faculty/ Parent Social. Mingle with faculty members from a variety of departments. Parents only. Wine, beer and other refreshments will be served. Baker Faculty Center.

5-6 p.m.

“Fridays at 5” Hillel-Shalom Shabbat Reception. Meet other Hillel-Shalom students and parents as you welcome Shabbat by lighting candles and eating freshly baked challah. Meet us in the Spiritual Activities Room. If you are able, please RSVP to Sharon Kaufman-Osborn at kaufman@whitman.edu. Prentiss Hall, Room 10, on the bottom floor.

5:30 p.m.

Sheehan Gallery Artist’s Talk by artist Mary Iverson. Olin 130. Opening Celebration for "Egress: The Paintings of Mary Iverson" in the Sheehan Gallery to follow.

5:30-7 p.m.

Dinner in Prentiss Dining Hall. Family members are invited to enjoy their student’s dining experience ($12.50 for adults, $6 for children 6-12 and free for children 5 and under).

7-9:30 p.m.

Whitman Sampler Concert. Enjoy performances by the Whitman Chorale and Chamber Singers (directed by Jeremy Mims), Orchestra (directed by Paul Luongo), Wind Ensemble (directed by Gary Gemberling) and Jazz Band (directed by Doug Scarborough). Cordiner Hall.

8 p.m.
