Michelle Y. Janning
Michelle Janning has been at Whitman since 2000, and currently serves as Associate Professor of Sociology and Assistant Dean of Faculty. She has also served as the Chair of the Sociology Department.
Professor Janning's scholarly interests are in gender, work, family, popular culture, and interpersonal relationships in young adulthood. Her publications include articles and reports on family boundaries, gender and decorating television, women and sports, and divorce and material culture for adolescents. She received her masters and doctoral degrees in Sociology from the University of Notre Dame, and her bachelors degree in Sociology/Anthropology from St. Olaf College.
