Foreign Languages (Chinese)
Guidelines for placing yourself in the Chinese Language Classes:
- If you
- speak basic Mandarin Chinese,
- know Pinyin or Bopomofo, and
- write 200 characters (traditional or simplified)
then you should wait until the spring semester and register for Chinese 106.
- If you cannot do all of the above (1, abc), you should register for Chinese 105.
- If you
- speak Mandarin Chinese,
- know Pinyin or Bopomofo, and
- write 300 characters (traditional or simplified)
then you should register for Chinese 205.
- If you
- communicate well in Mandarin Chinese,
- know Pinyin or Bopomofo, and
- write 550 characters and above (traditional or simplified)
then you should register for Chinese 305 (if offered) or Chinese 391 (Independent Study, usually 2 credits)
