WHY IS IT NECESSARY TO CONTRIBUTE ABOVE AND BEYOND TUITION? Tuition and endowment income cover only part of the total cost of providing talented faculty and first-rate facilities for each Whitman student. To make up the difference, the College relies on gifts from parents, alumni, friends and foundations. WHAT IS THE PARENTS FUND? An annual campaign to raise funds from parents for priority funding projects. These projects are part of the College's continuing pursuit of excellence. |
Did you know? Tuition pays less than 60% of the total cost of a Whitman education. ![]() |

CAN WHITMAN PARENTS BECOME INVOLVED IN OTHER WAYS? Absolutely! All current parents are members of the Parents Association. Parents are encouraged to attend special events throughout the year, such as Parent Orientation, Family Weekend, the Parents Association Breakfast and other regional programs. Parents who desire a deeper level of involvement are encouraged to participate in one of two Parents Committees: Parents Admission Representative (PAR) or Career Resource Committee. Please contact: WHAT HAVE PARENTS' GIFTS ACCOMPLISHED?
WHAT GIFT LEVEL IS HELPFUL? The Parents Fund is most successful if every parent participates. Gifts are votes of enthusiasm and appreciation for the education Whitman offers. Each contribution sets an example for and inspires others to give, ensuring the College's ongoing success in meeting the needs of its students. We hope each parent will give within his or her abilities. MATCHING GIFTS Some companies match on a two-to-one or even three-to-one basis, enabling you to double or triple your gift to the Whitman Parents Fund. Please check with your employer to obtain a matching gift form. HOW DO I MAKE A GIFT TO THE PARENTS FUND? Each fall information about the Parent Fund Project is sent to Whitman parents. Some parents also will be called by parent volunteers. Gifts may be made by check, credit card or online through the online giving page. Links to more information for Parents.
