Climbing Facility Rules and Regulations
  1. All users must complete the Assumption of Liability and Risk waiver and must have permission from the Outdoor Program before any use of the facilities.
  2. Climbers must be roped and on belay at all times (except on boulder wall). Belayers must use a harness and mechanical belay device at all times. Harnesses must be doubled back through the buckle.
  3. In order to check out modular climbing holds from the OP, climbers must go through a training/orientation session and then demonstrate confident leading ability to the Outdoor Program staff and then sign the Assumption of Liability and Risk waiver.
  4. Climbers who check out modular holds are responsible for their use. Those who check out holds are also responsible for any other climber who uses holds checked out under their name, without first going through an Outing program training/orientation session.
  5. No bouldering is allowed past the red line on the outdoor overhang. Using a spotter is necessary when leading the overhang (BEWARE OF SWING TRAJECTORY) and recommended when bouldering on the overhang or anywhere on the traverse wall.
  6. Both indoors and outdoors, climbing is allowed only in areas of the walls with holds and/or anchors.
  7. Any modular or permanent holds, hardware, or ropes may not be moved or altered in any way except with permission from the Outdoor Program staff.
  8. Before climbing, inspect all equipment for loose, damaged, or worn parts. Report non-functional equipment to the Outdoor Program staff.
  9. Any climber may be asked by Outdoor Program staff to adjust, alter, or discontinue any activity or behavior judged to be inappropriate, disruptive, or hazardous.
  10. Whitman College Outdoor Program reserves the right to suspend the privileges of those who refuse to climb in a safe and responsible manner concurrent with the procedures and policies stated above.
